UP - Unlimited Potential Program

"For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure." Philippians 2:13

Circle has partnered with leaders and parents from SEARCH - our support group for parents teaching struggling learners and students with special needs - and is pleased to pilot the Unlimited Potential Program (UP) for the 2010-11 school year. This full-day program is designed for the 7th -10th grade student desiring classes in academic subjects that target lower academic skills and are supplemental. There will be modified, yet challenging expectations for students that are working significantly below grade level. An integrated subject approach will be used to cover the subject areas. Emphasis will be placed on student's learning style, strengths, and abilities using a wide variety of activities to support content. Teachers will partner with parents to encourage the success of each student. This six-class program day will be held on the Winter Park campus location of the Foundations and Fundamentals programs.

NOTE: This is a pilot program and will only be offered if there is sufficient enrollment by May 1.  Acceptance in this pilot program is limited to students of current Circle families only.  If sufficient enrollment is not reached, all fees will be refunded.

Courses and Textbooks

The six classes offered are Literature/Writing, Life Skills, History, Science Lab, Music Appreciation, and Drama and will follow the history rich integrated unit study concept modeled by the Foundations and Fundamentals programs.

This program requires purchase of course textbooks for each student. Parents are responsible for purchase of the required textbooks for all courses for their student. Textbooks and resources for this program are still under development and will be finalized by March 4, 2010.

Structure

This program offers a full-day schedule (9:00am - 3:15pm) one day a week for students in grades 7-10. Students must elect the full program (6 classes per day) and may not take individual classes. Subjects will be presented in a 50-minute class time frame. Classes will be limited to 15 students and will follow a 30-week schedule. Parent participation will be required in the classroom.

Classes for the first semester will begin on Friday, August 20, 2010. The program also includes a thirty-minute lunch allowing additional time for student socialization. Participation fees include initial IEP assessments and guidance from the UP program administrative team.

Beginning in the 2010-11 school year Circle will be revising the dress code for all students enrolled in classes and programs. The new policy will require students to wear either a short or long sleeve polo shirt. Students will no longer be permitted to wear T-shirts on any of the campus locations. A final copy of the new dress code will be posted later in the spring.
