Foundations

Ancient Civilization

Girls in the Foundations ProgramThe Foundations Program offers an expanded look at history to show students how the arts, church history, and science reflect the progression of time and the development of human culture.  Just as the spokes of an umbrella give shape and support to the fabric covering, an integrated understanding of these disciplines (science, church history, and the arts) is essential to appreciating the "big picture" of history.  Foundations gives students a broad understanding of how the facts of human history have been woven together to create the world in which we live.  The name itself is used to convey the idea that history is foundational to all human experience; furthermore, a person's worldview (understanding of history and what it teaches) will determine how he lives his life.  This program is predicated on the idea that a Biblical worldview is essential to understanding the purposes of God in the life of man.  Foundations challenges students to see the world through a Biblical lens and will encourage them to live accordingly.

In addition to striving for academic excellence in the classroom and the at-home experience, the curriculum includes a weekly 'Mentoring Moment' segment designed to guide parents in helping their children grow in wisdom: grasping the spiritual application from the academic instruction.  This important dialogue framework is an exceptional opportunity for dad to participate in the homeschooling process through relevant family discussion.  Middle school students are then encouraged to practice the skill of journaling by further considering related 'prompts'.  This is intended to better prepare them for the requirements of many higher educational classes.

The all-new 'Character Corner' will guide parents in applying the practical application of the lesson with the goal to help students see there really is good reason for academic pursuits!

The K-1 Foundations class follows the same basic time-line as the older students using age-appropriate, hands-on activities to engage and teach the children.  This is serious FUN!  Teacher(s) plus assistants do all the messy, gooey, glittery projects you don't want to do at home.  Children learn songs and Bible verses, experiment with science, listen to books, make crafts and snacks, reenact events, and make maps to learn about the major people and events of this period of history.  For older siblings who are also involved in Foundations, the K-1 class tracks week-by-week with their classes, allowing for multi-age involvement in personal growth opportunities and discussions - learning together as a family! The class size is limited to twenty-two students.

Parents receive a weekly overview of each subject, including key notes from class and a variety of Personal Growth Opportunities (ideas for further at-home exploration of the subject material) - add math, phonics or language arts, and you have a complete curriculum aimed at the head AND heart of your child!
