HOUSEH.O.U.S.E.

H.O.U.S.E. is Circle's Hands On Unit Study Experience program for children in grades K-6. This program serves as an enrichment opportunity to provide students with a day of hands on activities to enhance their homeschool journey. The H.O.U.S.E. program is designed to give students an active, exciting experience in a variety of subjects. In addition to visual and auditory learning opportunities, H.O.U.S.E. provides the added benefit of hands-on discovery and age-appropriate classroom experiences. In most cases, homework is not required, but enrichment activities, titled as Strong Life Activities (SLA's), are encouraged. Strong Life Activities are additional at-home activities that focus on building a strong mind, strong body, strong heart, strong faith and strong journeys through each class lesson. Students compile LAPbooks, also known as "Learning And Processing books", to record their classroom activities and SLA activities.

Grades are not assigned, but the student may earn SLA points. Parents and students determine the amount of time spent doing SLA's outside of the classroom. In designated classes, instructors may require homework or a brief class presentation as stated in the class outlines distributed at the program orientation. The goal of the SLA program is to support the learning in the classroom at home.

H.O.U.S.E. is an enrichment opportunity for students to compliment your curriculum choices used at home. No longer a core academic option for Circle students, however, a recommended curriculum list for each grade level to support the H.O.U.S.E. theme will be available to assist parents with their student's academic plan. The curriculum list serves merely as a suggested course of study and is not required for participation in the H.O.U.S.E. program.

New for 2010-11

This year Circle will expand the H.O.U.S.E. program calendar to include 30 weeks of instruction and planned activity days. These new planned activity days will allow the program to bring forward student opportunities and events such as International Day with a project fair and the National Geographic Geography Bee, Club Day with opportunities for our student clubs to meet, International Science Day with the K-6 Science Fair, etc.

Theme

"Passport to the World" will be the theme for Circle's H.O.U.S.E. program for the 2010-11 school year. Course offerings will have an "international flair" to the activities and lessons with an emphasis on world geography and world missions. Subject areas such as art, science, geography, history, foreign language and even sports and lego building are presented with a cultural twist meshed with planned activity days to enlighten the theme.

Structure

This program offers a half-day schedule (9:00am-1:30pm) one day a week for students in grades K-6. Students can elect the full program (4 classes per day) or may take individual classes. Each subject will be addressed in a 50-minute teaching period.

Classes for the first semester will begin on Monday, August 16, 2010 for the Winter Springs location, Tuesday, August 17, 2010 for the Winter Park location, Wednesday, August 18, 2010 for the Apopka location. The program also includes a twenty-minute general assembly prior to the start of each day and a thirty-minute lunch allowing additional time for student socialization.

Beginning in the 2010-11 school year Circle will be revising the dress code for all students enrolled in classes and programs. The new policy will require students to wear either a short or long sleeve polo shirt. Students will no longer be permitted to wear T-shirts on any of the campus locations. A final copy of the new dress code will be posted later in the spring.
