Elementary FAQs

What programs are offered for children in K-5?

CCS has many wonderful class offerings for elementary children. The HOUSE program is a four hour program of academic, hands-on enrichment learning. Children have the opportunity to take one, two, three or the full four class program. Students receive an enrichment program in science, history, art, reading, literature, and more. Parents select the specific classes. Each year new classes are offered and will be available beginning in March. This is a 24 week program. Refer to the Web site to see which classes were offered this school year.

The Foundations program is an integrated study to a particular time perid of history. Next year students will study America and the World from 1850-1930. The student's schedule will rotate through six classes. The program is held for 24 weeks on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00am-3:00pm. The classes are history, science, church history, music, art, and development of theatre. This program is for students in grades K-8.

Arts classes are also offered for children in the elementary grades.

What subjects do I teach my K-1?

Readiness is critical at the the beginning stage of homeschooling. It is recommended that parents not only begin specific academic work but find resources that will help determine the readiness of the child to begin the early skills.

At this stage the foundational skills necessary are reading and math. Consistency is crucial for success. Be careful not to get too many materials to overwhelm you, but select materials that will lay an orderly foundation. The CCS bookstore staff can help.

What subjects need to be taught to my 2-5th grader?

The basic academic subject areas to be taught are Bible, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. All other subject areas are optional according to family goals. Circle strongly recommends that parents include activities in physical education/health and the fine arts.
